Donn Sorenson

Donn Sorensen defines every element of the American Dream. Success has encompassed the top nationally recognized health care executive for almost 30 years. He is the Executive Vice-President of Operations for Mercy, the seventh largest Catholic healthcare system in the United States. He is also a prolific author and leader outside of the boardroom and in the community.

Through his keen sense of leadership and brilliance, Sorensen has received immense accolades and awards in medical practice management and worked with the best and brightest physicians and leaders in the health-care field. Sorensen’s focus has been on Mercy’s operations, particularly reviewing the needs of all the communities his company serves, as well as looking at ways to expand medical care to more patients across the health system. Sorensen is very serious about the fact that everyone no matter who they are deserves great healthcare. This type of thought process is what also allows him to serve communities through the non-profit he co-founded with Doug Pitt, Care To Learn. The Mission of Care to Learn is to provide immediate funding to meet emergent needs in the areas of health, hunger and hygiene so every student can be successful in school.

Aditionally, Sorensen who is the author of the critically business acclaimed book, Big Hearted Leadership says it is compassion that will take you further than most of any other virtue. When we asked Sorensen what are the factors of success we were surprised by his answer.

“Compassion is everything,” he shared. “I have what people may perceive as success but it wasn’t until I got involved in dedicating my time to those in need particularly young students-that I really felt like a true success and leader. Compassion goes hand-in-hand with your competency as a leader. And in my book I show how compassion trickles down into every decision you make as a leader, right down to organizational structure, human resources, production, and all the way to your organization’s bottom line. There are three things to consider in leadership. Being honest, executing as a leader and giving back. Each of those three things are as important as the next,” said Sorensen.

Sorensen’s book is a blueprint of great leadership and a tool to enhance what some extremely successful people lack, a successful personal life filled with honest joy that you cannot buy.
